9th February 2018 (Kuala Lumpur) – Tecforte today launched its Community Outreach Program ELITE the first of its kind Cybersecurity Education Program in Malaysia with Asia Pacific University (APU). ELITE which stands for Elevating IT Education aims to provide University students with industry-like experience in cybersecurity operation for better career readiness and employability.
The demand for cybersecurity professionals has grown significantly where the global shortage has been estimated to reach 1.5 million by 2020. Cybersecurity readiness is imperative to achieve successful digital economy in Malaysia.
Through the ELITE initiative, an on-campus security operation centre (SOC) will be set up, using Tecforte’s Security Information & Event Management (SIEM) technology. The platform has been built over 15 years of R&D and certified CCEAL2 – a world-class security certification by Common Criteria and Cybersecurity Malaysia.
During the signing ceremony held at APU’s Technology Park campus, Tecforte CEO, Kho Han Yao said, “We are honoured to partner with APU in setting up this security operations centre. With ELITE, students who wish to embark on a career in Cybersecurity will be able to will familiarise themselves with an all-in-one security analysis & incident management platform that is currently deployed across the sectors from Banking, Telecommunications to Utilities and Governments in the region.”
APU’s Dean Faculty of Computing, Engineering & Technology, Prof. Dr Ir. Vinesh Thiruchelvam further explained, “APU is committed to produce “industry-ready students” and ELITE Program will help APU to be the University of Choice for students wishing to pursue a degree that offers industry-like experience in Cybersecurity and Forensic studies.”
The ELITE program will give students pursuing a Cybersecurity degree at APU the first-hand experience in performing real-time security monitoring, and to fortify its network defence with global threat intelligence, and launch faster and more accurate response on cybersecurity incidents in the newly set up ELITE Cybersecurity Operation Center by June 2018.
